Disjunctive Update, Minimal Change, and Default Reasoning

چکیده
It is well known that the minimal change principle was widely used in knowledge base updates. However, recent research has shown that conventional minimal change methods, eg. the PMA 9], are generally problematic for updating knowledge bases with disjunctive information under some circumstances. In this paper, we propose a new approach, which is called the minimal change with exceptions (the MCE), to deal with this problem in propositional knowledge base updates. We show that the MCE generalizes the PMA and still satisses the standard Katsuno and Mendelzon's update postulates. Furthermore, we also investigate the relationship between update and default reasoning. In particular, we represent a translation from the MCE to extended disjunctive default theories and prove the soundness and completeness of such translation relative to the semantics of the MCE.

Generated Models and Extensions of Nonmonotonic Systems
Stable generated models provide a general semantics for logic programming. Although equal for normal programs, they diier from the answer set semantics on disjunctive programs. We show that stable generated semantics coincide with the semantics obtained by translating programs into a minimal partial temporal logic into which a subsystem of default logic can be embedded. This leads us to a new v...
متن کاملDisjunctive Logic Programming and Possible Model Semantics
We use Kripke structures of autoepistemic logic to classify various semantics for disjunctive logic programs with default negation. We have observed that nonmonotonic reasoning can be characterized by Kripke structures whose beliefs are justiied. We also observed that two diierent types of negative introspection in autoepistemic reasoning present two diierent interpretations of default negation...

متن کاملUpdate with Disjunctive Information: From Syntactical and Semantical Perspectives
The possible models approach (PMA) is a classical minimal change semantics for knowledge base update, which provides an exclusive interpretation for disjunctive information in update. It has been recognized that the exclusive interpretation for disjunction may be problematic under some circumstances. In this paper, we investigate inclusive interpretations for disjunctions in update from both sy...
متن کاملDisjunctive Logic Programming and Autoepistemic Logic
In this paper, we use autoepistemic reasoning semantics to classify various semantics for disjunctive logic programs with default negation. We have observed that two different types of negative introspection in autoepistemic reasoning present two different interpretations of default negation: consistency-based and minimal-model-based. We also observed that all logic program semantics fall into ...
